Twins' Dillon Gee tops players for Monday, Aug. 21; Dodgers' Granderson tops NL players

Twins pitcher Dillon Gee is Monday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

Gee gave up one run over six innings, allowing two hits, no walks and striking out four, in the 10-2 win over the White Sox.

National League Player of the Day—Curtis Granderson of the Dodgers hit a grand slam and went 2-for-5 in the 6-5, 12-inning win over the Pirates. It is his first Player of the Game honor since being traded from the Mets earlier this week. Granderson has 3.2 Box-Toppers points on the season.

American League Batter of the Day—Adam Jones of the Orioles hit two home runs and went 4-for-4, scoring three times, in the 7-3 win over the Athletics.

National League Batter of the Day—There is no separate NL Batter of the Day for Monday because the overall NL Player of the Day is batter Curtis Granderson.

Top 10 watch—Dodgers pitcher Alex Wood (14.0 Box-Toppers points in 2017, ranked eighth) started Monday but did not earn Player of the Game honors.
