American League batters—J.D. Martinez of the Red Sox regains the lead with 8.2 Box-Toppers points, passing previous leader Xander Bogaerts of the Red Sox (6.5), who led for the past three weeks. Martinez ranks 17th among all players.

Martinez led AL batters for eight straight weeks before Bogaerts assumed the lead.

National League batters—Adam Duvall of the Marlins maintains the lead in the category with  6.0 Box-Toppers points, picking up 1.0 point in the past week. He ranks ahead of second-place NL batter Nick Castellanos of the Reds, who briefly took the category lead this week. While both Duvall and Castellanos have 7.0 Box-Toppers points on the season, Duvall ranks higher because he has more 2020 Box-Toppers points—4.0 vs. 1.0.

Duvall ranks 27th among all players.

Top 10 list exits and entrances—Two players rise into Box-Toppers top 10 overall players list this week:

  • Rockies pitcher German Marquez rises to eighth place with 10.0 points.

  • Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer rises to ninth place with 9.7 points.

They displace two players who were on the top 10 list last week—Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta and Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer.

The #BT40—The Box-Toppers 40 (#BT40) is made up of the 40 players on Box-Toppers’ four top 10 category lists—AL and NL pitchers and batters. The #BT40 are listed in the chart at the top of this page.

Eight players joined the #BT40 this week:

Those eight displace these eight players: White Sox pitcher Carlos Rodon, White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease, Miguel Sano of the Twins, Adolis Garcia of the Rangers, Marlins pitcher Pablo Lopez, Nolan Arenado of the Cardinals, Buster Posey of the Giants and Tyler Naquin of the Reds.

It should be noted that the #BT40 are not the overall top 40 players, but the top 10 in each of four categories. The lowest-ranking player among the #BT40 is Christian Yelich of the Brewers (4.0 points, 10th among NL batters), who ranks 99th overall.
