Royals pitcher Jonathan Heasley is Friday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Also Friday, Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove rises to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors.
Player of the Day—Heasley struck out seven over seven scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks, in the 8-1 win over the Orioles.
This was Heasley’s Box-Toppers debut, the first time in his career he earned Player of the Game honors. Heasley made his Major League debut Sept. 17, 2021, and was playing in his ninth career game.
Heasley earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first career points, and ranks 205th among all players, 67th among American League pitchers.
National League Player of the Day—Braves pitcher Spencer Strider struck out eight over 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and one walk, in the 4-2 win over the Pirates.
Strider earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 2.7 for the season, 44th among NL pitchers.
American League Batter of the Day—George Springer of the Blue Jays homered, doubled and went 3-for-3, scoring three times and driving in two runs, in the 10-1 win over the Tigers.
National League Batter of the Day—Nelson Cruz of the Nationals homered and went 4-for-5, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 11-5 win over the Brewers.
Cruz earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 4.5 for the season, fifth among NL batters.
Cruz also has the most career Box-Toppers points among the 15 who earned Player of the Game honors Friday. His 87.4 career points is second among active NL batters behind Albert Pujols of the Cardinals (205.8).
Rankings—Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove rises to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Friday.
Musgrove (6IP 4H 0R 2BB 8K W in the 9-0 win over the Rockies) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 9.7 for the season, trailing overall leader, Rays pitcher Shane McClanahan (10.7). Musgrove extends his lead among NL pitchers, ahead of second-place Sandy Alcantra of the Marlins (8.7). Musgrove also rises to first place among all NL players, passing previous leader Pete Alonso of the Mets (9.2).
