About Box-Toppers’ team abbreviations
With voting now underway for the 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, here’s an updated look at Box-Toppers points leaders at each position in both leagues, through the games of Sunday, June 19.
The first phase of voting is open now and continues until June 30. Here is more information about how that works. The All-Star Game is Tuesday, July 19, at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles.
Box-Toppers offers two perspectives on All-Star teams—the first includes the Box-Toppers points leaders at each position for the current 2022 season. The second includes the points leaders at each position for the combined 2021 and 2022 seasons.
The chart above shows the leaders at each position in both the American League and National League for 2022 and 2021-22. There are eight players who make both the 2022 and 2021-22 All-Star teams, including:
AL first base—Ty France, Mariners
AL third base—Jose Ramirez, Guardians
AL outfield—Aaron Judge, Yankees
AL designated hitter—Shohei Ohtani, Angels
AL starting pitcher—Gerrit Cole, Yankees
NL second base—Jake Cronenworth, Padres
NL third base—Manny Machado, Padres
NL starting pitcher—Joe Musgrove, Padres
This season, both leagues have 14 spots each on Box-Toppers All-Star team—the customary five infield spots, three for outfield, four for starting pitchers plus one spot for closing pitcher and one spot for designated hitter.
Fans don’t get to pick pitchers for the All-Star Game (which doesn’t make sense), but Box-Toppers lists the top pitchers by league in Box-Toppers points for both 2022 and 2021-22.
About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
