National League Player of the Day—Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw struck out nine over seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and no walks, in the 5-0 win over the Mets.
Kershaw earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and is 46th in season player rankings.
Kershaw now has 261.0 career Box-Toppers points, second-most since 1995, behind Randy Johnson (282.5). (It should be noted Johnson would have more Box-Toppers points if his entire career from 1988 were tracked—projections put his point total at about 385.) Kershaw leads active players in career points, ahead of second-place player, Mets pitcher Max Scherzer (237.3).
Kershaw has now earned Box-Toppers points in 16 straight seasons, tied for the third-longest currently active streak. He’s one of five players with an active streak of 16 seasons or more. He’s also one of 32 players since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995 with a streak of 16 or more seasons—his streak is now tied for 17th-longest since 1995.
Kershaw earned his first Box-Toppers points in 2008 with the Dodgers. His best season was 2014 with the Dodgers when he had 31.5 Box-Toppers points, first among all players. He has led all players in Box-Toppers points in a season three times (2011, 2013 and 2014) and finished among the top three in points in each season from 2011 to 2017. He earned 20 or more points for those seven straight seasons, the longest such streak since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995.
In 2022, he earned 10.7 Box-Toppers points, 21st among NL pitchers.
National League Batter of the Day—Jack Suwinski of the Pirates hit two home runs and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 5-3 win over the Rockies.
Suwinski had a Box-Toppers game score Tuesday of +4.0 and had similar line scores to two other Player of the Game winners—Gabriel Moreno of the Diamondbacks and Marcus Semien of the Rangers. All three went 2-for-3, scored twice and drove in three runs. Suwinski ranked highest because he hit two home runs, Moreno ranked next-highest because he homered and doubled and Semien ranked lowest among the three because he homered and singled. (NOTE: A previous version of this post incorrectly ranked Moreno as the highest among the three.)
American League Batter of the Day—Marcus Semien of the Rangers hit a three-run homer and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in three runs in the 12-2 win over the Royals.

He trails 29th-ranked player David Ortiz (145.9). Sale ranks eighth among active players in career points, second among active AL pitchers, behind Zack Greinke of the Royals (222.5).
It is the first Box-Toppers point for Sale since Sept. 17, 2021. Sale was limited by injury, pitching only two games in 2022. Sale has earned just 3.0 total Box-Toppers points since the start of 2020, pitching in only 15 games over that span, including missing the entire 2020 season.
Debut—Three players made their Box-Toppers debut Tuesday, each with their first career Player of the Game honor:
Rays pitcher Taj Bradley (5.1IP 3H 0R BB 9K W in the 10-0 win over the Reds) made his Major League debut April 12 and was playing in his second career game.

About Box-Toppers—Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
