Indians' Kluber passes Scherzer for Box-Toppers lead among AL pitchers; Cubs' Arrieta tops players for Tuesday, Sept. 16

Indians pitcher Corey Kluber, Tuesday’s American League Player of the Day, takes the season lead among AL pitchers in Box-Toppers points.

Kluber passes Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer, who had led AL pitchers since July 3. Kluber earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 22.1 for the season. Scherzer has 21.1.

Kluber struck out 14 over seven innings, allowing one run, in the 4-2 win over the Astros. He ranks third among players in Box-Toppers points. (See the updated top 10 player list on the home page.)

Meanwhile, Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta is Tuesday’s Player of the Day. Arrieta pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout, striking out 13 and allowing just one walk, in the 7-0 win over the Reds.

Arrieta earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 13.7 for the season. He ranks 18th among all players and seventh among National League pitchers.

Wilmer Flores of the Mets is NL Batter of the Day. Flores homered twice and went 3-for-4, scoring three times and driving in six runs, in the 9-1 win over the Marlins.

Mike Zunino of the Mariners is AL Batter of the Day. Zunino doubled and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 13-2 win over the Angels.

Notable: Nationals pitcher Tanner Roark became the 50th player with 10.0 or more Box-Toppers points this season after earning Player of the Game honors Tuesday. Roark (7IP 0R W in the 3-0 win over the Braves) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 10.0 for the season. He ranks 50th among all players and 22nd among NL pitchers.

Arrieta receives 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day. Kluber receives 1.7 for AL Player of the Day. Flores and Zunino each receive 1.5 for being top Batter of the Day in their league.

Padres pitcher Andrew Cashner, who pitched a two-hit shutout, is Monday’s Player of the Day. Cashner also walked one and struck out seven in the 1-0 win over the Phillies.

Astros pitcher Collin McHugh is American League Player of the Day. McHugh struck out seven over 6 2/3 innings, allowing one run, in the 3-1 win over the Indians. McHugh earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 11.8 for the season. He ranks 30th among all players and 17th among AL pitchers.

Mark Trumbo of the Diamondbacks is National League Batter of the Day. Trumbo hit a grand slam and went 2-for-4, driving in five runs, in the 6-2 win over the Giants.

Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers is AL Batter of the Day. Cabrera homered and doubled, going 3-for-5 with three runs in the 8-6 win over the Twins. Cabrera earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being AL Batter of the Day, giving him 12.5 for the season. He ranks 23rd among all players and second among AL batters, behind Jose Abreu of the White Sox (15.5 Box-Toppers points).

Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, Sunday’s National League Player of the Day, becomes only the third player in the past 20 years to earn 30 Box-Toppers points in a single season.

Most BTP single season
Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers now has the sixth-best single season in Box-Toppers history (dating back to 1995). He has 30.5 Box-Toppers points in 2014 and has a chance to break the single-season record of 33.7 set twice by Randy Johnson of the Diamondbacks in 2000 and 2002.

Kershaw, who earned 1.7 Box-Toppers points, now has 30.5 for the season and with possibly two starts remaining, still has a chance to break the single-season record for Box-Toppers points of 33.7, set twice by Diamondbacks pitcher Randy Johnson in 2000 and 2002.

If Kershaw has two starts remaining, he would need to earn at least NL Player of the Day in both starts—worth 1.7 points each—to pass Johnson’s record. He could have as many as 34.5 total points if he is Player of the Day (earning 2.0 points each) in both starts.

Kershaw joins Johnson and Pedro Martinez as the only players who have earned 30 or more Box-Toppers points since Box-Toppers record keeping began in 1995. Johnson scored 30 three times (1999, 2000 and 2002) and Martinez did it twice with the Red Sox (1999 and 2000). So Sunday marked only the sixth time in 20 seasons that a player has passed the 30-point threshold.

Kershaw earned his 1.7 points Sunday by striking out nine over eight innings, allowing two runs, in the 4-2 win over the Giants. Kershaw extends his overall lead in Box-Toppers points for the season (see the updated top 10 player list on the home page), with 7.9 points more than the second-place player, Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner (22.6 Box-Toppers points).

With points earned Sunday, Kershaw moves from seventh to sixth place on the Box-Toppers “all-time” single-season points list, passing the 29.4 Randy Johnson earned in 2001 with the Diamondbacks.

Meanwhile, Rays pitcher Chris Archer is Sunday’s Player of the Day. Archer struck out nine over seven innings, allowing one run, in the 6-5, 10-inning win over the Blue Jays. Archer earned no decision because after he left, the Blue Jays tied the game before the Rays went ahead in the top of the 10th inning.

Archer earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 11.4 for the season. He ranks 32nd among all players and 18th among American League pitchers.

Xander Bogaerts of the Red Sox is AL Batter of the Day. Bogaerts homered and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 8-4 win over the Royals.

Neil Walker of the Pirates is NL Batter of the Day. Walker homered and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 7-3 win over the Cubs.

Notables: Athletics pitcher Jon Lester rose to 13th place in Box-Toppers player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Sunday. Lester (6IP 0R 7K W in the 4-0 win over the Mariners) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 14.7 for the season. He ranks seventh among AL pitchers.

Nationals pitcher Jordan Zimmermann rose to 26th place in Box-Toppers player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Sunday. Zimmermann (6.2IP 0R 5K W in the 3-0 win over the Mets) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 12.0 for the season. He ranks ninth among NL pitchers.

Astros pitcher Dallas Keuchel rose to 43rd place in Box-Toppers player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Sunday. Keuchel (7IP R W in the 6-1 win over the Angels) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 10.7 for the season. He ranks 21st among AL pitchers.

Archer and Keuchel on Sunday both passed 10.0 Box-Toppers points for the season. They are the 47th and 48th players this season with 10.0 or more Box-Toppers points.

White Sox pitcher Jose Quintana is Saturday’s Player of the Day, while Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke rises to 11th place in Box-Toppers player rankings.

Quintana struck out 13 over seven innings, allowing one run and three hits, in the 5-1 win over the Twins.

Greinke rose to 11th place in Box-Toppers player rankings after earning National League Player of the Day honors Saturday. Greinke pitched six scoreless innings in the 17-0 win over the Giants. Greinke earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 15.5 for the season. He ranks fifth among NL pitchers.

Ian Desmond of the Nationals is NL Batter of the Day. Desmond doubled and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 10-3 win over the Mets.

Avisail Garcia of the White Sox is American League Batter of the Day. Garcia homered and went 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 7-6 win over the Twins.

Orioles pitcher Bud Norris is Friday’s Player of the Day, while Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner rises to second place in Box-Toppers player rankings.

Norris pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out 10 in the 5-0 win over the Yankees.

Bumgarner rose from third to second place in Box-Toppers player rankings after earning National League Player of the Day honors Friday. (See the updated top 10 player list on the home page.) Bumgarner pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out nine in the 9-0 win over the Dodgers. Bumgarner earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 22.6 for the season. He is also second place among NL pitchers, trailing overall Box-Toppers points leader Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers (28.8 Box-Toppers points). Bumgarner passes American League leader Max Scherzer of the Tigers (21.1 Box-Toppers points) on the player rankings list.

Kole Calhoun of the Angels is AL Batter of the Day. Calhoun went 3-for-4, scoring three times and driving in two runs, in the 11-3 win over the Astros.

Pujols rises from 10th to 7th on Box-Toppers 'all-time' career points list

Albert Pujols of the Angels rose from 10th to seventh place on the “all-time” career Box-Toppers points list this past week.

Pujols, who was American League batter of the day twice in the past week, picked up 3.0 Box-Toppers points, increasing his career Box-Toppers points total from 164.3 to 167.3. In the process, he passed three players on the all-time top list:

Kershaw picked up 1.0 Box-Toppers point over the past week and now has 28.8, the seventh-highest single-season total since Box-Toppers record keeping began in 1995. With possibly three starts left in the season, Kershaw has a chance of breaking the “all-time” single season record of 33.7 set by Diamondbacks pitcher Randy Johnson in 2000 and 2002.

Kershaw leads second-place National League pitcher Madison Bumgarner of the Giants by 7.9 Box-Toppers points. Bumgarner has 20.9 for the season.

The race for top American League pitcher is getting tighter. Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer still leads with 21.1 Box-Toppers points, but Indians pitcher Corey Kluber, who has picked up 3.0 points in the past week, now has 20.4, only 0.7 points behind. Scherzer has led AL pitchers since the July 3 player rankings report, but in the past four weeks has only earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point, while Kluber has picked up 5.0 in that time.

Jose Abreu of the White Sox still leads AL batters in Box-Toppers points with 15.5. He ranks 10th among all players and is the only batter among the top 10.

Troy Tulowitzki of the Rockies still leads National League batters in Box-Toppers points with 11.6. Tulowitzki will have played in just over half the season’s games (91) and is out for the season recovering from hip surgery.

There is a new number two NL batter: Marcell Ozuna of the Marlins has 8.0 Box-Toppers points, passing Freddie Freeman of the Braves (7.7). Freeman has been in second place among NL batters since the May 1 player rankings report and has not earned any Box-Toppers points since June 28.

The Los Angeles Angels have extended their lead atop Box-Toppers team rankings and were the hottest team of the past week.

Angels players have accumulated 116.7 Box-Toppers points this season, including 9.0 during the past week, more than any other team.

The Oakland Athletics remain the second place overall team with 109.9 Box-Toppers points and the Los Angeles Dodgers, third in team rankings, remain the top National League team, with 109.8 Box-Toppers points.

The Angels leading player, pitcher Garrett Richards, who has 15.7 Box-Toppers points, is out for the season with a torn knee tendon. Richards still ranks ninth among all players and sixth among AL pitchers. The next-highest rated Angels player is pitcher Matt Shoemaker, with 10.7 Box-Toppers points. He ranks 19th among AL pitchers.

The Angels also have baseball’s best winning percentage (.623).

The Dodgers, the top NL team, are led by overall Box-Toppers points leader, pitcher Clayton Kershaw (28.8) and pitcher Zack Greinke (13.8 Box-Toppers points, who ranks fifth among NL pitchers).

The Dodgers have the second-best winning percentage in the NL (.568), behind the Washington Nationals (.572). The Nationals have 98.5 Box-Toppers points and rank eighth among all teams, fourth among NL teams.

Last week’s lowest-ranked team, the Boston Red Sox, rose one spot from 30th to 29th place, with 59.7 Box-Toppers points. The Texas Rangers are now the lowest-ranked team with 59.5 Box-Toppers points.

Pirates' Liriano tops players for Thursday, Sept. 11; trio of Box-Toppers top 10 players earn points

Pirates pitcher Francisco Liriano is Thursday’s Player of the Day, while three pitchers in Box-Toppers player rankings top 10 also earned Player of the Game honors Thursday.

Liriano pitched eight scoreless innings and struck out 12 in the 4-1 win over the Phillies. Liriano earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 10.1 for the season. He ranks 45th among all players and 21st among National League pitchers. He is the 46th player this season with 10.0 or more Box-Toppers points.

The three pitchers among Box-Toppers top 10 who earned Player of the Game honors Thursday are Corey Kluber of the Indians, Johnny Cueto of the Reds and Chris Sale of the White Sox. (See the updated top 10 player list on the home page.)

Kluber becomes the fourth player this season with 20.0 or more Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors. Kluber (8.1IP 2R 7K W in the 8-2 win over the Twins) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 20.4 for the season. He maintains his spot in fourth place in Box-Toppers player rankings and is second among American League pitchers. He now trails AL pitching leader Max Scherzer of the Tigers (21.1 Box-Toppers points) by only 0.7 points.

Cueto maintained his spot in fifth place in Box-Toppers player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors. Cueto (8IP 0R 7K W in the 1-0 win over the Cardinals) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 19.4 for the season. He ranks third among NL pitchers.

Sale moves up from eighth to seventh place in Box-Toppers player rankings after earning AL Player of the Day honors. Sale pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out nine, in the 1-0 win over the Athletics. Sale earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 17.4 for the season. He ranks fourth among AL pitchers.

Chris Young of the Yankees is AL Batter of the Day. Young hit a walk-off three-run homer and went 2-for-4, scoring twice, in the 5-4 win over the Rays.

Anthony Rendon of the Nationals is NL Batter of the Day. Rendon hit a two-run homer and went 3-for-5, scoring twice, in the 6-2 win over the Mets.

Shields earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 13.7 for the season. He ranks 16th among all players and 10th among American League pitchers.

Braves pitcher Aaron Harang is National League Player of the Day. Harang struck out nine over seven innings, allowing one run, in the 6-2 win over the Nationals.

Brian McCann of the Yankees is AL Batter of the Day. McCann homered and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 8-5 win over the Rays.

Matt Clark of the Brewers is NL Batter of the Day. Clark homered and went 1-for-2, driving in two runs, in the 4-1 win over the Marlins. This was Clark’s Box-Toppers debut, the first time he has earned Player of the Game honors. He is the 3,411th player to debut in Box-Toppers since record keeping began in 1995. He made his Major League debut Sept. 2 and was playing in his sixth game.

Blue Jays pitcher Marcus Stroman is Monday’s Player of the Day, while Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw keeps his chances alive to break Box-Toppers’ single-season points record.

Most BTP single season
Randy Johnson is the all-time leader in Box-Toppers points in a single season—he scored 33.7 twice, in 2000 and 2002. Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers rose into a tie for seventh place on the "all-time" list Monday (he now has 28.8). And with two or three likely starts remaining, he has a chance to break Randy Johnson's record for most Box-Toppers points in a season.

Stroman pitched a three-hit, complete game shutout, striking out eight, in the 8-0 win over the Cubs. He earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 12.7 for the season. He ranks 20th among all players and 12th among American League pitchers.

Kershaw meanwhile solidified his dominant lead among all players in Box-Toppers points (see the updated top 10 player list on the home page) and now has the seventh-best single-season Box-Toppers points total of “all-time,” after earning Player of the Game honors Monday. Kershaw (8IP 8K W in the 9-4 win over the Padres) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 28.8 for the season.

Kershaw is now 4.9 Box-Toppers points behind the all-time single-season record of 33.7 points set twice by Randy Johnson of the Diamondbacks—in 2000 and 2002.

With less than three weeks remaining in the season, Kershaw likely has two or three starts remaining. If he only starts two more games, the most he can earn is 4.0 Box-Toppers points (by being overall Player of the Day twice) and would end 0.9 points short of the record. But if he has three starts remaining, he has a chance to break the record if he is Player of the Day twice and at least Player of the Game once. In his 24 starts this season, he has failed to earn Box-Toppers points in only six starts.

While Kershaw’s 28.8 Box-Toppers points is now tied with the 28.8 points earned by Pedro Martinez of the Red Sox in 2002, there are now only two different names ahead of Kershaw on the “all-time” single-season list—Martinez and Johnson. Between 1999 and 2002, the two pitchers produced the seven highest single-season Box-Toppers point totals of “all-time”—Box-Toppers record keeping began in 1995.

If Kershaw earns 1.2 more Box-Toppers points, it will only be the sixth time a player has reached 30.0 Box-Toppers points in a season.

Pirates pitcher Jeff Locke is National League Player of the Day. Locke struck out nine over seven innings, allowing one run, in the 6-4 win over the Phillies.

Albert Pujols of the Angels is AL Batter of the Day. Pujols hit a three-run homer and went 3-for-5, scoring three times and driving in three runs, in the 12-3 win over the Indians. This is the second time in three days Pujols has earned AL Batter of the Day honors. Earning 1.5 Box-Toppers points, Pujols now has 7.5 points for the season and ranks 10th among AL batters, moving ahead of teammate Mike Trout. Trout also has 7.5 points this season, but Pujols edges him out on the AL batter top 10 list because he has more points over the past two seasons—11.5 vs. 11.0.

There is no NL Batter of the Day Monday because no NL batter earned Player of the Game honors.

Notables: Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez maintained his sixth-place spot in Box-Toppers player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Monday. Nationals pitcher Doug Fister rises to 23rd in Box-Toppers player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Monday. Fister (7IP 0R W in the 2-1 win over the Braves) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 12.4 for the season. He ranks eighth among NL pitchers.

Kershaw has 27.8 Box-Toppers points to lead all players. With a little over three weeks left in the season—and three or four starts remaining—he has a shot of breaking the record of 33.7 Box-Toppers points in a single season, done twice by Randy Johnson of the Diamondbacks—in 2000 and 2002.

Box-Toppers “all-time” records go back to 1995, when Box-Toppers record keeping began.

Max Scherzer of the Tigers still leads American League pitchers in Box-Toppers points with 21.1. He ranks second among all players, behind Kershaw.

Jose Abreu of the White Sox still leads AL batters in Box-Toppers points with 15.5. He ranks 10th among all players and is the only batter among the top 10.

Los Angeles Angels dethrone Athletics to top Box-Toppers team rankings

The Los Angeles Angels have dethroned the Oakland Athletics from the top of Box-Toppers team rankings, a spot they held since July 13.

In this week’s report, the Angels have 107.7 Box-Toppers points, passing the Athletics, with 107.4 points.

BTP: Box-Toppers points

The Angels have the best winning percentage in baseball (.604). And they’ve had the best winning percentage the past two weeks, but until now, were never able to overtake the Athletics in Box-Toppers points. The Athletics were able to boost their Box-Toppers points total through July trades, especially an early July trade with the Cubs, bringing them pitchers Jason Hammel and Jeff Samardzija.

But the Angels swept the Athletics in a four-game series last weekend, helping them move to the top in Box-Toppers rankings. The Athletics, now in second place in Box-Toppers rankings, have a winning percentage of .568, third-best in the American League and fourth best among all teams.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are still the top National League team in Box-Toppers points. Dodgers players have accumulated 104.1 Box-Toppers points and remain in third place among all teams. They’ve been the top NL team since the July 3 team rankings report.

The Dodgers are led by overall Box-Toppers points leader, pitcher Clayton Kershaw (27.8) and pitcher Zack Greinke (13.8 Box-Toppers points, who ranks fifth among NL pitchers).

The Dodgers have the second-best winning percentage in the NL (.557), behind the Washington Nationals (.572). The Nationals have 94.0 Box-Toppers points and rank eighth among all teams, fourth among NL teams..

The Baltimore Orioles had the best week of any team, scoring 10.4 Box-Toppers points, rising from eighth to seventh place with 95.4.

The Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners both rose into the top 10 list this week. The Blue Jays picked up 10.0 Box-Toppers points to rise from 13th to ninth place with 92.0 Box-Toppers points. And the Mariners picked up 5.0 Box-Toppers points to rise from 11th to 10th place, with 88.4.

The Kansas City Royals and Milwaukee Brewers both fell out of the top 10. The Royals fell from ninth to 11th place, with 86.6 Box-Toppers points, picking up only 2.0 points during the week. The Brewers fell from 10th to 13th place, with 84.0 Box-Toppers points, after they picked up 0.0 points during the week.

The Boston Red Sox remain the lowest-ranked team with 56.7 Box-Toppers points.

Blue Jays' Buehrle, Dbacks Delgado top players for Thursday, Sept. 4

Blue Jays pitcher Mark Buehrle is Thursday’s Player of the Day. Buehrle pitched eight scoreless innings in the 1-0, 10-inning win over the Rays. Buehrle earned a no decision because he left the game with the score tied at 0.

Buehrle has the most Box-Toppers points of any of Thursday’s eight Players of the Game (listed below). He earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 7.7 for the season. He ranks 68th among all players and 29th among American League pitchers.

Diamondbacks pitcher Randall Delgado is National League Player of the Day. Delgado pitched five shutout innings in the 5-1 win over the Padres.

Robinson Cano of the Mariners is AL Batter of the Day. Cano doubled and went 2-for-4, scoring once and driving in four runs, in the 10-2 win over the Mariners.

There is no NL Batter of the Day for Thursday because no NL batter earned Player of the Game honors.

Buehrle receives 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day. Delgado receives 1.7 for NL Player of the Day. Cano receives 1.5 for being AL Batter of the Day.

Orioles pitcher Miguel Gonzalez is Wednesday’s Player of the Day, while Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez rises to sixth place in Box-Toppers player rankings.

Gonzalez pitched a complete game, four-hit shutout, striking out eight and walking one, in the 6-0 win over the Reds.

Hernandez rose from seventh to sixth place in Box-Toppers player rankings for the season after earning Player of the Game honors Wednesday. (See the updated top 10 player list on the home page.) Hernandez (8IP R W in the 2-1 win over the Athletics) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 16.8 for the season. He ranks third among American League pitchers.

Adam LaRoche of the Nationals is National League Player of the Day. LaRoche homered and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in five runs in the 8-5, 14-inning win over the Dodgers. LaRoche entered the game as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning.

Dioner Navarro of the Blue Jays is AL Batter of the Day. Navarro hit a two-run homer and went 2-for-2 in the 7-4 win over the Rays.

Notable: Diamondbacks pitcher Josh Collmenter rose to 23rd place in Box-Toppers player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Wednesday. Collmenter (7IP R W in the 6-1 win over the Padres) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 12.0 for the season. He ranks eighth among NL pitchers.

Kershaw struck out eight over eight innings, allowing one run and three hits, in the 4-1 win over the Nationals. He earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 27.8 for the season. He ranks first among all players this season. (See the updated top 10 player list on the home page.)

Most BTP single season

Kershaw is now within 5.9 Box-Toppers points of Johnson’s record of 33.7 he set with the Diamondbacks in both 2000 and 2002. Kershaw likely has three or four starts remaining. If he is Player of the Day in three upcoming starts, he would score 6.0 Box-Toppers points and pass Johnson with 33.8.

Kershaw’s 27.8 Box-Toppers points is now the ninth-highest single season total since record keeping began in 1995. He has the most points in a single season since 2002, when Johnson tied his record of 33.7 set in 2000. Also in 2002, Pedro Martinez of the Red Sox had 28.8 Box-Toppers points and Curt Schilling of the Diamondbacks had 28.4.

Kershaw also passed his career high for most Box-Toppers points in a season Tuesday—his previous high was 26.1, set in 2011. Kershaw has 129.9 career Box-Toppers points and ranks 24th on the “all-time” list, 16th among pitchers (record keeping began in 1995).

Buster Posey of the Giants is National League Batter of the Day. Posey homered, doubled twice and went 3-for-5, scoring three times and driving in four runs, in the 12-7 win over the Rockies.

Daniel Nava of the Red Sox is AL Batter of the Day. Nava homered and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 9-4 win over the Yankees.
