Red Sox pitcher John Lackey is Monday’s Player of the Day. Lackey pitched seven innings, allowing two hits and one run, in the 14-1 win over the Blue Jays.

Ian Desmond of the Nationals is National League Player of the Day. Desmond homered and went 5-for-5, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 7-2 win over the Rockies.

Adam Jones of the Orioles is American League Batter of the Day. Jones homered twice and drove in four runs in the 4-2 win over the Angels.

Notable: White Sox pitcher Chris Sale rises to 15th place in Box-Toppers player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Monday. Sale (7IP 1R 8K W in the 3-1 win over the Royals) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 11.0 for the season. He is in ninth place in Box-Toppers points among AL pitchers.

Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw, pitching no-hitter, tops players for Wednesday, June 18, rises to 3rd in Box-Toppers points

Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, pitching a no-hitter, is Wednesday’s Player of the Day and rises to third place in Box-Toppers season player rankings.

Kershaw struck out 15 over nine innings, allowing no runs, hits or walks in the 8-0 win over the Rockies. The Rockies only baserunner reached on an error. This was Kershaw’s first no-hitter and the second thrown this season—the other by Dodgers pitcher Josh Beckett on May 25.

Kershaw receives 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 10.7 for the season. He rises from eighth to third place in Box-Toppers player rankings for the season (see the updated top 10 list on the home page). He is now in second place in Box-Toppers points among National League pitchers, behind Adam Wainwright of the Cardinals (12.0).

Kershaw led all players in Box-Toppers points in 2013 with 21.7.

Red Sox pitcher John Lackey is American League Player of the Day. Lackey pitched nine shutout innings and struck out nine in the 2-1, 10-inning win over the Twins. Lackey, however, did not pick up the win because he left with the game tied 0-0 after nine innings.

Brian McCann of the Yankees is AL Batter of the Day. McCann homered, tripled and drove in five runs in the 7-3 win over the Blue Jays.

Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke is National League Player of the Day. Greinke struck out 11 over seven innings in the 5-2 win over the Phillies. Greinke rises to sixth place in Box-Toppers player rankings for the season. He earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points, giving him 4.4 for the season. World Series Game 6 preview: Cards' Wacha, Red Sox' Lackey duel in pitching rematch from Game 2

World Series Game 6 Wednesday features a pitching rematch of Game 2 won by the Cardinals.

Cardinals pitcher Michael Wacha faces Red Sox pitcher John Lackey, the same two who started Game 2 in Boston last Thursday won by the Cardinals 4-2. St. Louis closing pitcher Trevor Rosenthal was Box-Toppers Player of the Day in that game. Wacha, who pitched six innings, earned the win.

The Red Sox lead the best-of-seven series 3-2 and could wrap up the World Series championship with a win Wednesday.

Wacha had 3.0 Box-Toppers points during the regular season, ranking 361st overall. However, the rookie has earned Player of the Game honors for the Cardinals three times already this postseason (Game 4 of the National League Divisional Series vs. the Pirates, and Game 2 and Game 6 of the NL Championship Series vs. the Dodgers).

Jon Lester shut out the Cardinals for 7 2/3 innings and led the Red Sox to a Game 1 World Series win to earn Wednesday's Box-Toppers Player of the Day honors.

Lester struck out eight, walked only one and allowed five hits in the 8-1 win. The Red Sox take a one-game-to-zero lead over the Cardinals in the best-of-seven series. 

Lester had 12.7 Box-Toppers points during the regular season, ranking 34th overall. He was also Player of the Game in the first game of the American League Division Series against the Rays.

Red Sox' Lackey, Cards' Holliday top players in LCS games for Tuesday, Oct. 15

John Lackey, who threw 6 2/3 shutout innings and struck out eight, leading the Red Sox to win Game 3 of the American League Championship Series, is Tuesday's Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

The Red Sox won 1-0 to take a two-games-to-one lead in the best-of-seven ALCS series. 

Lackey had 6.0 Box-Toppers points during the regular season, ranking 148th among all players. 

Meanwhile, Matt Holliday of the Cardinals is Box-Toppers Player of the Game in the National League Championship Series Game 4. Holliday hit a two-run home run and went 2-for-4 in the Cardinals 4-2 win over the Dodgers. The Cardinals take a three-games-to-one lead over the Dodgers in the NLCS.

Holliday had 6.5 Box-Toppers points during the regular season, ranking 121st among all players.

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu tops players in NLCS Game 3 win, Monday, Oct. 14

Hyun-Jin Ryu, who threw seven shutout innings and gave up only three hits to lead the Dodgers to a Game 3 National League Championship Series win over the Cardinals, is Monday's Box-Toppers Player of the Day.

The Dodgers won the game 3-0 and now trail the best-of-seven NLCS against the Cardinals two games to one. 

Ryu had 9.7 Box-Toppers points during the regular season, ranked 61st overall.

So far in the series, the top three players in Box-Toppers points player rankings have started games, but each time, his team has lost the game:

Tigers' Max Scherzer tops players in Friday, Oct 4's playoff games

Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer, who led American League players in regular season Box-Toppers points, is Friday's Player of the Day in the four division series playoff games.

Scherzer struck out 11 over seven innings in the 3-2 win over the Athletics, as the Tigers lead the AL Division Series best-of-five, 1-0. 

Scherzer had 18.1 Box-Toppers points for the season, the most of any AL player, ranking fifth overall (see the top 10 Player Ranking list on the home page). 

Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole was National League Player of the Day. Cole gave up one run over six innings in the 7-1 win over the Cardinals to tie the NLDS series at 1-1.  Cole had 4.7 Box-Toppers points in 2013, ranking 211th overall.

Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester was Player of the Game in the 12-2 win over the Rays, leading the Red Sox to an ALDS series lead of 1-0. Lester struck out seven over 7 2/3 innings.  Lester had 12.7 Box-Toppers points in 2013, ranking 34th overall.

Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole is National League Player of the Day. Cole struck out 12 over six innings in the 10-1 win over the Padres. 

Hanley Ramirez of the Dodgers is NL Batter of the Day. Ramirez homered twice, drove in four runs and went 4-for-5 in the 7-6 win over the Diamondbacks, as Los Angeles won the NL West title. 

Prince Fielder of the Tigers is American League Batter of the Day. Fielder went 3-for-4 in the 5-4 win over the Mariners.
