Also, among the 27 players on the teams, there are eight players who are on Box-Toppers 2019 All-Star teams and six who are on All-Star teams over all three time spans—for 2019, for 2018-19 and for 2014-19. Leading the 2014-19 All-Stars is Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer, who ranks first in Box-Toppers points over that six-season period with 134.3.

Player of the Day—Freeland pitched 8 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit, three walks and striking out nine, in the 10-0 win over the White Sox. Freeland had a no-hitter intact until giving up a hit with one out in the ninth inning.

American League Player of the Day—Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez struck out eight over six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and three walks, in the 4-0 win over the Athletics.

Hernandez earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 171.4 career points, rising to eighth in career points among all players since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began. With the season at the halfway point, Kershaw is now on pace to earn 36.2 Box-Toppers points this season, which would break the single-season record of 33.7 set by Diamondbacks pitcher Randy Johnson, who did it twice, in 2000 and 2002 (Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995). However, at this time last year, Kershaw led all players with 20.0 Box-Toppers points and was on pace to earn 40.0 points, but spent more than two months on the disabled list beginning in late June, and had only 4.4 points in the second half of the season, finishing with 24.4, in second place behind Scherzer’s 25.7.

The most Box-Toppers points Kershaw has earned in a single season is 31.5 in 2014, when he led all players. It is tied for the fourth-highest single-season Box-Toppers points by a player since tracking began in 1995.

Ray struck out nine over seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no walks, in the 4-0 win over the Brewers.

Ray earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 5.0 for the season, most of any of the 10 who earned Player of the Game honors Thursday. Ray ranks 18th among players in 2017 Box-Toppers points, seventh among National League pitchers.

Debut—Padres pitcher Dinelson Lamet made his Box-Toppers debut Thursday, the first time in his career he earned Player of the Game honors.

Lamet (5IP 3H R 2BB 8K W in the 4-3 win over the Mets) was also making his Major League debut Thursday. He is the 3,808th player to debut in Box-Toppers since record keeping began in 1995.

Scoring—Ray earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Pomeranz earns 1.7 points for being AL Player of the Day.
