Also Saturday, Albert Pujols of the Angels breaks the record for most consecutive seasons earning Box-Toppers points, earning Player of the Game honors in his 20th consecutive season.
Plus, two players rise in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list after both earned Player of the Game honors Saturday: White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito rises to third place and Twins pitcher Kenta Maeda rises to sixth place.

If Pujols of the Angels earns Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors once in 2020, he will have earned Box-Toppers points for 20 straight seasons (2001-2020). Pujols is currently tied for the longest streak at 19 seasons with three other players—CC Sabathia, Jason Giambi and Carlos Beltran.

In addition, Astros pitcher Gerrit Cole wraps up Box-Toppers Player of the Year honors after the only other player in contention for the season Box-Toppers points lead—teammate Justin Verlander—did not earn Player of the Game honors Sunday. With only one start remaining for Verlander and only 2.0 Box-Toppers points possible, Cole’s 2.7-point lead is now all but insurmountable.

In addition Thursday, Box-Toppers’ two top-ranked players for 2018 started Thursday but neither earned Player of the Game honors in their teams’ wins. Neither top-ranked Luis Severino of the Yankees nor second-ranked Max Scherzer of the Nationals were top players in their games.

Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw is Sunday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, rising to fifth place in season player rankings.
Also Sunday, Rangers pitcher Bartolo Colon, flirting with a perfect game at age 44, becomes the first player to earn Box-Toppers points in 20 different seasons after earning American League Player of the Day honors.

The Cleveland Indians are the top-ranked team in Box-Toppers’ 2018 preseason rankings, the same position where they finished the 2017 season.
The Nationals top NL teams and the World Series-champion Astros fall to 8th.
Meanwhile, the New York Mets made the biggest offseason improvement in players’ accumulated Box-Toppers points, while the Tampa Bay Rays and the Kansas City Royals had the biggest declines.

Meanwhile Saturday, the Los Angeles Dodgers maintained their narrow lead in Box-Toppers season team rankings, just 0.2 Box-Toppers points ahead of the Cleveland Indians. Both teams won Saturday. The Dodgers beat the third-ranked Washington Nationals, who are now 2.0 points behind.
