Dodgers pitcher Max Scherzer is Sunday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, rising to lead season player rankings, passing previous leader, Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole.
Scherzer struck out nine over eight scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks, in the 8-0 win over the Padres.

Scherzer also rises to second place overall in season player rankings with 17.4 Box-Toppers points in 2021, trailing Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole (19.4). Scherzer also rises to fourth place in career Box-Toppers points with 218.6, passing Astros pitcher Zack Greinke (217.8). (Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995.) Scherzer now ranks second among active players in career points, trailing only teammate Clayton Kershaw (246.6).

Greinke struck out seven over seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no walks, in the 4-1 win over the Angels.
