Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga is Wednesday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, pitching seven innings of a combined no-hitter, and rising to first place in season player rankings.
Imanaga and two Cubs relievers threw the combined no-hitter in the 12-0 win over the Pirates. Imanaga struck out seven over seven scoreless and hitless innings, allowing two walks. Imanaga faced 25 batters (two reached base on walks and two reached on errors) and threw 95 pitches.

Montgomery pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout, striking out seven and allowing no walks, in the 1-0 win over the Cubs.

Scherzer also rises to fourth place in career Box-Toppers points with 218.6, passing Astros pitcher Zack Greinke (217.8). (Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995.) Scherzer now ranks second among active players in career points, trailing only teammate Clayton Kershaw (246.6).

Also Thursday, two players rise in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list after each earns Player of the Game honors—Athletics pitcher Chris Bassitt rises to seventh place and Angels pitcher Shohei Ohtani rises to eighth.

Meanwhile, Albert Pujols of the Angels regains sixth place on Box-Toppers “all-time” career points list after earning Player of the Game honors Wednesday.
