David Ortiz is the only player inducted into internet baseball writers’ Hall of Fame for 2022.
None of the nine candidates Box-Toppers voted for Hall induction received the necessary 75 percent support. And Box-Toppers also did not vote for Ortiz.

Carrasco earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 5.4 for the season, rising to fifth place in season player rankings and third among AL pitchers, behind Chris Sale of the Red Sox (6.7) and Ervin Santana of the Twins (6.7).
National League Batter of the Day—Keon Broxton of the Brewers homered, tripled and went 3-for-3, scoring three times and driving in four runs, in the 11-7 win over the Red Sox.
American League Batter of the Day—Ben Gamel of the Mariners hit a three-run homer and doubled in the 10-9 win over the Phillies. Gamel went 4-for-5, scoring three times and driving in four runs.
Streak—Carlos Beltran of the Astros tied Box-Toppers’ record for the longest consecutive season streak in which a player has earned Player of the Game honors.
Beltran was Player of the Game Tuesday in the 8-3 win over the Braves (HR 2-4 2R BI), marking the 19th straight season in which he has earned Box-Toppers points (1999 to 2017). That ties the record of Jason Giambi, who earned Box-Toppers points for 19 straight seasons from 1995 to 2013. (Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995, the same year Giambi began his Major League career. Giambi earned points in each season he played except for his last season in 2014.)
Beltran earned his first Box-Toppers points in 1999 with the Royals and has 105.9 career points, rising to 61st place among all players since 1995, when Box-Toppers tracking began. Beltran earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point Tuesday, passing three players on the “all-time” list—Dodgers pitcher Scott Kazmir (105.1), Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner (105.7) and Aramis Ramirez (105.8). Beltran now trails 60th-ranked player Frank Thomas (106.2).
Beltran’s 105.9 career Box-Toppers points also ranks fourth among active AL batters.
Beltran’s best season was 2003 with the Royals when he had 13.9 Box-Toppers points, second among AL batters, behind Carlos Delgado of the Blue Jays (17.7). In 2016, Beltran had 6.0 points with the Yankees and Rangers, eighth among AL designated hitters.
Beltran barely kept the streak alive earning only 1.0 Box-Toppers points in two different seasons—in 2010 with the Mets and in 2014 with the Yankees.
Besides Beltran, there are only three other Major League players who earned Box-Toppers points in 1999 or earlier who are still listed as active players today:
Scoring—Lackey earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Carrasco earns 1.7 points for being AL Player of the Day. Broxton and Gamel each earn 1.5 points for being their league’s Batter of the Day. All of Tuesday’s other Players of the Game (listed in the chart below) earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point.

Player of the Day—Montgomery pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout, striking out seven, in the 5-0 win over the Padres.
Montgomery had a Box-Toppers game score of 11, tied with White Sox pitcher Chris Sale, who was Player of the Game in the 2-1 win over the Cardinals. But Montgomery won overall Player of the Day on a tiebreaker because he earned the win in his game, while Sale picked up a no decision in his.
National League Player of the Day—Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks pitched six scoreless innings, striking out six and allowing three hits, in the 1-0 win over the Mets.
American League Batter of the Day—Mitch Moreland of the Rangers hit two home runs and drove in four runs in the 8-6 win over the Orioles.
National League Batter of the Day—Howie Kendrick of the Dodgers homered, doubled and went 4-for-5, driving in two runs, in the 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Rodriguez was Player of the Game in Tuesday’s 4-3 win over the Phillies (1IP 0H 0R 2K Sv) and earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, his first of the season.
Rodriguez earned his first Box-Toppers point in 2003 with the Angels. The most Box-Toppers points he had in a single season was 10.0, in both 2005 and 2008 with the Angels. In 2014, he had 4.0 Box-Toppers points with the Brewers.
Rodriguez has 60.4 career Box-Toppers points and ranks 12th among all closing pitchers since 1995, when Box-Toppers record keeping began. He has more career Box-Toppers points than all active closing pitchers—second place is Joe Nathan of the Tigers (52.0).
Debut—Pirates pitcher Deolis Guerra made his Box-Toppers debut Tuesday, the first time in his career he earned Player of the Game honors. Guerra (3IP 3H 0R 3K W in the 5-4, 14-inning win over the Tigers) made his Major League debut June 27 and was playing in his third career game. He is the 3,521st player to debut in Box-Toppers since record keeping began in 1995.
Scoring—Montgomery earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Hendricks earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day. White Sox pitcher Chris Sale is Box-Toppers All-Star Game Player of the Day.
Sale pitched two perfect innings Tuesday, struck out two and earned the win as the American League beat the National League 3-0.
Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, pitching in his final All-Star Game, was named the game Most Valuable Player after pitching the eighth inning, allowing no hits and no runs.
Sure, picking Rivera, who is retiring after a brilliant and long career, is more a sentimental than logical choice. And choosing the top player in an All-Star Game is a bit of a fool's errand. The game has the feeling of a presidential ceremonial bill signing in which the president uses 15 different pens to sign a bill, so that key backers can each get a souvenir. This pen is used to make the "B," this to make the "a," and so on. In the All-Star Game, pitchers who are normally conditioned to throw seven to nine innings, are brought out to throw a ceremonial one or two innings—this one makes the "r," and this one makes the "a." In these conditions, it's hard to really determine who is the top player of the game any more than one can determine the pen that truly made the difference in the presidential bill signing.
For this year, we'll say Sale. True, his appearance was limited, but he did pitch two innings (scribbling the proverbial "c" and "k" of the presidential signature), more than any other AL pitcher.
Since it is the All-Star Game and it is an exhibition, no Box-Toppers points are awarded. (Sale has 10.7 Box-Toppers points for the season, ranking 10th among all players and third among AL pitchers.)

Determining Box-Toppers Players of the Game

Sale, the top player, had a game score of 4.0. (How the Box-Toppers game score formula works.) Joe Nathan, Rangers closing pitcher, was in second with 2.0. The top batter was Jason Kipnis of the Indians with 1.0. He and Salvador Perez of the Royals had identical scores of 1.0, but Kipnis breaks the tie because he has more RBIs. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. Players earn Box-Toppers points for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
