National League Batter of the Day—J.D. Davis of the Mets hit a three-run homer and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 8-4 win over the Marlins.
Davis earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being NL Batter of the Day, giving him 2.5 for the season, third among NL batters.
American League Batter of the Day—Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers homered, doubled and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 11-5 win over the Pirates.
Cabrera has now earned Box-Toppers points in 18 straight seasons with his first Player of the Game honor of 2020. He earned his first Box-Toppers points in 2003 with the Marlins. With the 1.5 Box-Toppers points earned Saturday, Cabrera now has 152.4 career points and rises to 23rd place among all players since 1995. He passes Barry Bonds (152.2) and trails 22nd-ranked player Greg Maddux (152.7). It should be noted that both Bonds and Maddux began their careers before Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995 and so would likely have more career Box-Toppers points. In fact, Box-Toppers has projected that Bonds would have about 230 career points and Maddux would have about 250 if their entire careers were tracked. Passing Bonds, Cabrera now ranks fourth among batters in career Box-Toppers points since 1995.
Cabrera’s best season was 2013 with the Tigers when he had 16.9 Box-Toppers points, eighth among all players and first among AL batters. He also led AL batters in 2009 with the Tigers with 16.5 points. In 2019, he had 3.0 Box-Toppers points with the Tigers.
