Red Sox’ Marrero tops players in Thursday’s opening spring training games

Elih Marrero of the Red Sox is Box-Toppers Player of the Day in Thursday’s opening spring training games.

Marrero hit two doubles and went 2-for-2, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 14-1 win over the Twins.

Marrero would have earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day if if this were a regular season game. Because it’s a preseason exhibition game, no Box-Toppers points are awarded.

Marrero has yet to make his Box-Toppers debut because he has not yet earned Player of the Game honors in a regular season game, so he has 0.0 career Box-Toppers points.

National League Player of the Day—Jameson Hannah of the Rockies doubled and went 2-for-2, scoring once and driving in one run, in the 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

Hannah would have earned 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day in a regular season day. Hannah has yet to make his Box-Toppers debut because he has not yet earned Player of the Game honors in a regular season game, so he has 0.0 career Box-Toppers points.

There were four games played Thursday. Each of the four Player of the Game winners have not yet won Player of the Game honors during the regular season, so all have no career Box-Toppers points.

Scoring—No Box-Toppers points are awarded in exhibition games. Were it a regular season day, Marrero would have earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day and Hannah would have earned 1.7 points for being NL Player of the Day. All of Thursday’s other Players of the Game (listed in the chart below) would have earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point.
