Giants pitcher Carlos Rodon is Saturday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, rising to eighth place in season player rankings.
Rodon pitched a complete game, striking out 12 and allowing one run, three hits and two walks, in the 3-1 win over the Padres.
Rodon earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 10.7 for the season, eighth among all players and fourth among National League pitchers.
Rodon becomes the ninth player this season to reach 10.0 Box-Toppers points. It is his second straight season with 10.0 or more points. In 2021, he had 11.7 points with the White Sox, 12th among American League pitchers.
American League Player of the Day—White Sox pitcher Johnny Cueto struck out five over eight scoreless innings, allowing five hits and no walks, in the 8-0 win over the Tigers.
Cueto earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 4.4 for the season, 33rd among AL pitchers.
Cueto now has 116.2 career Box-Toppers points, rising to 54th place among all players in career points since Box-Toppers tracking began in 1995. With his 1.7 points Saturday, he passes four players on the “all-time” career points list—Josh Beckett (114.9), Tim Lincecum (115.0), Padres pitcher Yu Darvish (115.3) and Torii Hunter (115.9). He now trails 53rd-ranked player Todd Helton (116.4).
Cueto ranks 15th among active players in career points, sixth among active AL pitchers.
American League Batter of the Day—Jose Ramirez of the Guardians homered, doubled and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 13-1 win over the Royals.
Ramirez earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being AL Batter of the Day, giving him 8.7 for the season, 16th among all players and second among AL batters, behind Shohei Ohtani of the Angels (16.0). (It should be noted that Ohtani has earned most of his 16.0 points as a starting pitcher (12.0), earning just 4.0 as a designated hitter.)
National League Batter of the Day—Austin Riley of the Braves homered and went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in two runs, in the 4-3 win over the Nationals.
Notable—Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw now has 252.6 career Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Saturday.

(It should be noted Johnson would have an estimated 380 points if his entire career from 1988 were tracked.) Kershaw leads active players in career points, ahead of second-place player, Mets pitcher Max Scherzer (228.3).
With Kershaw’s 1.0 Box-Toppers point Saturday, he now has 4.0 points in 2022, 36th among NL pitchers.

In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
