Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen is Wednesday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, rising to first place in season player rankings.
Gallen struck out 12 over 6 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks, in the 2-0 win over the Royals.
Gallen earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 6.7 for the season, rising from sixth to first place in season player rankings, passing previous leader, Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman (6.0 points), who took the lead Sunday.
American League Player of the Day—Astros pitcher Hunter Brown struck out eight over seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks, in the 1-0 win over the Rays.
Brown earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 3.7 for the season, 16th among all players and 11th among AL pitchers.
American League Batter of the Day—Anthony Volpe of the Yankees doubled and went 2-for-3, scoring three times and driving in three runs, in the 12-6 win over the Twins.
This was Volpe’s Box-Toppers debut, his first carer Player of the Game honor. Volpe made his Major League debut March 30 and was playing in his 25th career game.
National League Batter of the Day—Nick Castellanos of the Phillies homered and went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in three runs, in the 6-5 win over the Mariners.
Debut—In addition to Volpe, Guardians pitcher Tanner Bibee also made his Box-Toppers debut Wednesday, with his first career Player of the Game honor.
Bibee (5.2IP 6H R 0BB 8K W in the 4-1 win over the Rockies) was also making his Major League debut Wednesday.
