Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes is Monday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day.
Also Monday, Andres Gimenez of the Guardians rises to second place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning American League Batter of the Day honors. Plus, Lane Thomas of the Nationals earns Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors for the second straight day Monday.
Player of the Day
Cortes struck out six over eight scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no walks, in the 7-0 win over the Marlins.
Cortes earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and is 23rd in season player rankings.
Cortes earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points in 2023 (105th among AL pitchers) after earning 15.4 in 2022 (ninth among AL pitchers).
National League Player of the Day
Phillies pitcher Spencer Turnbull struck out six over six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, in the 5-3, 10-inning win over the Cardinals.
Turnbull did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the Cardinals tied the game after he exited.
Turnbull earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, his first points of the season, and is 37th in season player rankings.
National League Batter of the Day
Brandon Nimmo of the Mets hit two home runs, including a three-run shot, and went 4-for-4, scoring twice and driving in five runs, in the 8-7 win over the Braves.
American League Batter of the Day
Andres Gimenez of Guardians doubled and went 2-for-3, scoring once and driving in one run, in the 4-0 win over the White Sox.
