Yankees pitcher Will Warren is Box-Toppers Player of the Day in Wednesday’s spring training games.

Warren struck out four over three scoreless and hitless innings, allowing no walks and earning the win, in the 7-0 win over the Cardinals.

Warren had a +7.0 Box-Toppers game score, best among all Yankees and highest among all Wednesday’s Player of the Game winners.

Warren pitched in six games for the Yankees in his first season in 2024, starting five, but did not win Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in any of them and so has 0.0 career Box-Toppers points.

If this were a regular season game, Warren would have earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day (1.0 point as Player of the Game and 1.0 bonus point as overall Player of the Day). However, no Box-Toppers points are awarded because it’s a preseason exhibition game.

National League Player of the Day is Corbin Carroll of the Diamondbacks.

National League Player of the Day

Corbin Carroll of the Diamondbacks hit a grand slam and went 2-for-2, scoring twice and driving in four runs, in the 7-1 win over the Brewers.

Carroll earned 3.5 Box-Toppers points in 2024, 63rd among NL batters.

If this were a regular season game, Carroll would have earned 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day (1.0 point as Player of the Game and 0.7 bonus points as overall Player of the Day).

American League Batter of the Day is Zack Gelof of the Athletics.

American League Batter of the Day

Zack Gelof of the Athletics went 2-for-2, driving in three runs, in the 8-5 win over the Mariners.

Gelof also had the most 2024 Box-Toppers points among Wednesday’s Player of the Game winners (4.0 points, which was 38th among AL batters).

If this were a regular season game, Gelof would have earned 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being AL Batter of the Day (1.0 point as Player of the Game and 0.5 bonus points as overall AL Batter of the Day).

National League Batter of the Day

There is no separate NL Batter of the Day for Wednesday because the overall NL Player of the Day is batter Corbin Carroll.

Notable

Two players earned Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors for the second time during the 2025 spring training season:

  • Matt Gorski of the Pirates (HR SF 1-1 R 3BI in the 7-3 win over the Orioles) was also Player of the Game in Saturday’s 10-5 win over the Orioles (HR 2-3 2R 6BI). Gorski has played 447 minor league games over five seasons but has yet to make his regular season Major League debut and so has 0.0 career Box-Toppers points.

  • Junior Caminero of the Rays (3B 1-2 0R 3BI in the 8-2 win over the Red Sox) was also Player of the Game in Sunday’s 4-2 win over the Braves (HR 1-2 2R BI). Caminero has 1.0 career Box-Toppers point earned in 2024 with the Rays.

Wednesday’s games

In Wednesday’s 16 completed spring training games featuring matchups between two Major League teams, there were eight Player of the Game winners who had previously earned Box-Toppers points in regular season games. In seven of Wednesday’s games, the Player of the Game winner was a player who has yet to earn Box-Toppers Player of the Game honors in the regular season and so has 0.0 career Box-Toppers points.

One game ended in a tie (Cubs vs. Giants), so no Player of the Game honors were awarded.

Scoring

No Box-Toppers points are awarded in exhibition games. Were it a regular season day, Warren would have earned 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, Carroll would have earned 1.7 points for being NL Player of the Day and Gelof would have earned 1.5 points for being AL Batter of the Day. All of Wednesday’s other Players of the Game (listed in the chart) would have earned 1.0 Box-Toppers point.

About Box-Toppers

Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.

Box-Toppers strives for accuracy. See a mistake in a post? A wrong name, wrong team, grammar error, spelling goof, etc.? Thanks for pointing it out! Contact Box-Toppers here. Let's fix it and make it right.
