Braves, Astros, Mariners among leaders in Box-Toppers offseason team rankings

The Atlanta Braves are Box-Toppers’ top-ranked team going into 2024, with a roster mostly intact from 2023 when they had baseball’s best record.

Meanwhile, the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners are Box-Toppers’ top two American League teams, with the Mariners having one of the best offseason improvements of any team so far. And also, while the Los Angeles Dodgers have made big offseason splashes adding Shohei Ohtani, Tyler Glasnow and Teoscar Hernandez, their offseason ranking has actually fallen from third place last season to fourth place now.

Shohei Ohtani leads all Angels pitchers in 2023 Box-Toppers points. He also leads all Angels batters in 2023 Box-Toppers points.

The overall 2023 Box-Toppers points leader (13.9) at the All-Star break is the only player to lead his team in both categories. On the other 29 clubs, pitchers have the most Box-Toppers points on 24 teams and batters lead four teams.

Blue Jays’ Chris Bassitt leads Box-Toppers’ list of worthy but unchosen All-Stars

Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt is the most deserving player not selected to the 2023 Major League Baseball All-Star teams.

Bassitt has 11.4 Box-Toppers points in 2023, fourth among all players and third among American League pitchers.

Verlander struck out nine over five scoreless and hitless innings, allowing one walk, in the 5-0 win over the Athletics.

Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer is Tuesday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, rising to fifth place in season player rankings.

Scherzer struck out 10 over eight innings, allowing one run, five hits and no walks, in the 6-1 win over the Marlins.
