Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen is Sunday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, rising to fifth place in season player rankings.
Also Sunday, two other players in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list earned Player of the Game honors—Giants pitcher Carlos Rodon maintained his seventh place spot and Braves pitcher Max Fried rose to eighth.
Player of the Day—Gallen struck out seven over seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, in the 5-1 win over the Brewers.
Gallen earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 16.7 for the season, rising from 10th to fifth place in player rankings, second among National League pitchers, behind Sandy Alcantara of the Marlins (18.1).
American League Player of the Day—Yankees pitcher Frankie Montas struck out seven over five scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks, in the 2-1 win over the Rays.
Despite giving up just one hit, Montas was pulled after 93 pitches.
Montas earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being AL Player of the Day, giving him 4.7 for the season, 53rd among AL pitchers.
National League Batter of the Day—Aristides Aquino of the Reds hit a grand slam and went 1-for-1, scoring once and driving in four runs, in the 10-0 win over the Rockies.
American League Batter of the Day—Trevor Story of the Red Sox hit a three-run homer, doubled and went 3-for-4, scoring once and driving in three runs, in the 5-2 win over the Rangers.
Story earns 1.5 Box-Toppers points for being AL Batter of the Day, giving him 7.0 for the season, 10th among AL batters.
Rankings—In addition to Gallen, two other players in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list also earned Player of the Game honors Sunday:
Giants pitcher Carlos Rodon (6IP 5H 0R 2BB 10K ND in the 5-3 win over the Phillies) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 16.4 for the season, maintaining seventh place in player rankings, fourth among NL pitchers.
Braves pitcher Max Fried (5IP 0H 0R BB 6K W in the 7-1 win over the Marlins) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 16.0 for the season, rising from ninth to eighth place, fifth among NL pitchers. Despite giving up no hits and throwing only 66 pitches, Fried was pulled after five innings because of a rain delay.
Notable—Two players crossed the 10.0 Box-Toppers points threshold Sunday after both earned Player of the Game honors:
Cardinals pitcher Miles Mikolas (8IP 2H 0R BB 3K W in the 2-0 win over the Cubs) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 10.4 for the season, 34th among all players and 16th among NL pitchers. He becomes the 35th player to reach 10.0 Box-Toppers points in 2022. It is his second season with 10.0 or more points. He earned 11.7 in 2018 with the Cardinals, 17th among NL pitchers. He earned no points in both 2020 and 2021.
Blue Jays pitcher Ross Stripling (6IP 2H 3R 2BB 8K W in the 4-3 win over the Pirates) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 10.0 for the season, 36th overall and 16th among AL pitchers.
