The Dodgers won only one of their five games this week, picking up 1.7 points. The remainder of their net gain this week is thanks to trade deadline deals, with the most significant player pick-up in the month leading up to the July 30 trade deadline, as measured by Box-Toppers, acquiring pitcher Jack Flaherty from the Tigers. Flaherty has 9.0 Box-Toppers points in 2024, 27th among all players and currently 11th among NL pitchers.
They were also part of the second-most significant trade deadline deal, dealing pitcher James Paxton (6.0 points) to the Red Sox. (Paxton had been designated for assignment by the Dodgers July 22, so his points did not count toward the Dodgers total in July 25’s Box-Toppers team rankings report.)
They also acquired infielder Amed Rosario (2.5 points) from the Rays, pitcher Michael Kopech (1.0 point) from the White Sox and outfielder Kevin Kiermaier (1.0 point) from the Blue Jays. They also traded away pitcher Ryan Yarbrough (1.0 point) to the Blue Jays.
Other trade deadline gains
The Dodgers were one of five teams with net gains of more than 10.0 Box-Toppers points in the past week. Here is a look at the four teams with the next-largest net gains and how they fared in trade deadline deals:
The Boston Red Sox had a net gain of 12.5 Box-Toppers points, giving them 76.7 for the season, rising from 13th to 10th place. The Red Sox most notably acquired pitcher James Paxton (6.0 points) from the Dodgers.
The New York Mets had a net gain of 11.7 Box-Toppers points, giving them 75.0 for the season, rising from 15th to 11th place. The Mets most notably acquired pitcher Ryne Stanek (4.0 points) from the Mariners and pitcher Paul Blackburn (3.0 points) from the Athletics.
The San Diego Padres had a net gain of 11.5 Box-Toppers points, giving them 80.0 for the season, rising from ninth to sixth place. The Padres most notably acquired relief pitchers Tanner Scott (4.0 points) from the Marlins and Jason Adam (2.0 points) from the Rays.
The Kansas City Royals had a net gain of 10.7 Box-Toppers points, giving them 82.2 for the season, rising from fifth to fourth place. The Royals most notably acquired pitcher Michael Lorenzen (3.0 points) from the Rangers.
Biggest fall: Tigers
The Detroit Tigers fell nine spots in team rankings in the past week, from 16th to 25th with 49.0 points, with a net loss of 13.0 points, also the biggest loss among all teams. Notably, the Tigers dealt pitcher Jack Flaherty (9.0 points) to the Dodgers and outfielder Mark Canha (2.5 points) to the Giants. Flaherty had the most points among all players moved in trade deadline deals.
Other trade deadline losses

The Miami Marlins, down 8.7 points to 27.5, remaining in 29th place overall. The Marlins have five players among Box-Toppers’ top 25 trade deadline movers, all of whom left the Marlins for new teams, led by relief pitcher Tanner Scott (4.0 points), going to the Padres.
The Chicago White Sox, down 7.7 points to 22.9, remaining in 30th and last place overall. The White Sox notably dealt pitcher Erick Fedde (5.7 points) and batter Tommy Pham (2.5 points) to the Cardinals. (Pham has earned his 2.5 points since joining the Cardinals.)

The Washington Nationals, down 0.5 points to 53.7. Despite the loss in points, the Nationals rise from 24th to 22nd place.
Last place: White Sox
The Chicago White Sox remain in 30th and last place for the ninth week with 22.9 Box-Toppers points, with a net loss of 7.7 points in the past week.
The White Sox lost all six games they played this week (and are on an 17-game losing streak from before the All-Star break).
About Box-Toppers
Box-Toppers tracks who most helps their team win the most games. Using standard box score statistics, Box-Toppers uses a simple formula to determine a Player of the Game for each Major League Baseball game played. That player is the person who contributed most to his team’s win. In regular season games, players earn 1.0 Box-Toppers point for being named Player of the Game and can earn bonus points for being Player of the Day or top player or batter in their league for the day.
