Yet, several other candidates with Hall-of-Fame worthy careers were not voted for induction Tuesday because of their ties to the steroid era. In fact, it can be argued that righteous baseball writers did a noble thing Tuesday by blocking three such candidates—Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Sammy Sosa—for their 10th and final time on the ballot.

None of the nine candidates Box-Toppers voted for Hall induction received the necessary 75 percent support. And Box-Toppers also did not vote for Ortiz.

Of the nine players, three are in their first year on the ballot—Tim Lincecum, Jake Peavy and Mark Teixeira. The other six all return after not receiving the necessary votes to make the hall last year, including Curt Schilling, who is on the ballot for his 10th and final year.

Also Wednesday, Dodgers pitcher Max Scherzer extended his lead among National League pitchers in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning NL Player of the Day honors. Plus, Nick Castellanos of the Reds rises to first place among NL batters in 2021 Box-Toppers points after earning NL Batter of the Day honors.

deGrom struck out 10 over seven innings, allowing two runs, four hits and no walks, in the 4-3, eight-inning win over the Brewers. deGrom did not earn the win, picking up a no-decision, because the game was tied when he exited.

Also, two other players rose in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list after earning Player of the Game honors Monday—Indians pitcher Aaron Civale rises to sixth place and Padres pitcher Yu Darvish rises to ninth.

None of the 25 players eligible received the necessary 75 percent of the vote from members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Pitcher Curt Schilling came the closest to reaching 75 percent—he received 71.1 percent of the vote, falling 16 votes short.
