Tigers' Sanchez tops player for Sunday, Aug. 3; Giants' Bumgarner bolsters 3rd place spot in Box-Toppers rankings

Tigers pitcher Anibal Sanchez is Sunday’s Player of the Day, while Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner bolsters his third-place spot in Box-Toppers player rankings.

Sanchez pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out 12, in the 4-0 win over the Rockies. This was the first time this season Sanchez has earned Player of the Game honors. Last season, he ranked second among all American League players with 17.1 Box-Toppers points. He now has 2.0 Box-Toppers points for 2014.

Bumgarner, Sunday’s National League Player of the Day, strengthens his third-place spot in Box-Toppers player rankings. (See the updated top 10 player list on the home page.)
