Astros pitcher Justin Verlander is Tuesday’s Box-Toppers Player of the Day, extending his lead in season player rankings.
Also Tuesday, two other players rise in Box-Toppers season player rankings top 10 list after both earn Player of the Game honors—Giants pitcher Carlos Rodon rises to sixth place and Braves pitcher Max Fried rises to seventh place.

Player of the Day—Verlander struck out 10 over six hitless, scoreless innings, allowing no walks, in the 4-2 win over the Twins.
Verlander had a no-hitter through his six innings pitched, but exited after 91 pitches. Subsequent relievers gave up six hits over the final three innings. Verlander allowed only one base runner, in the second inning, allowing a runner to reach first on a wild pitch after a strikeout.
Verlander earns 2.0 Box-Toppers points for being Player of the Day, giving him 21.0 for the season, extending his lead to 3.0 points over second-place player, Angels pitcher Shohei Ohtani (18.0). Verlander also leads American League pitchers ahead of Ohtani.
Verlander becomes the first player to reach 20.0 Box-Toppers points in 2022. In 2021, three players reached 20.0 points. This is Verlander’s fifth season with 20.0 or more points. His best season was 2019 with the Astros when he had 27.5 points, second among all players. Verlander led all players in 2012 with 24.8 Box-Toppers points with the Tigers.

He trails fourth-ranked player, Mets pitcher Max Scherzer (234.3) by 6.7 points. He leads active AL pitchers in career points, ahead of Royals pitcher Zack Greinke (222.5).
National League Player of the Day—Giants pitcher Carlos Rodon struck out 10 over seven innings, allowing one run, five hits and no walks, in the 3-1 win over the Tigers.
Rodon earns 1.7 Box-Toppers points for being NL Player of the Day, giving him 15.4 for the season, rising from ninth to sixth in season player rankings. He ranks third among NL pitchers, behind Sandy Alcantara of the Marlins (17.1) and Julio Urias of the Dodgers (15.4). (Though Urias and Rodon both have 15.4 points, Urias ranks ahead because he has more 2021 Box-Toppers points—19.1 vs. 11.7.)
National League Batter of the Day—Trayce Thompson of the Dodgers hit a three-run homer and went 2-for-3, scoring three times and driving in four runs, in the 10-1 win over the Brewers.
American League Batter of the Day—Manuel Margot of the Rays doubled and went 2-for-4, scoring three times and driving in two runs, in the 11-1 win over the Angels.
Rankings—Braves pitcher Max Fried rises from eighth to seventh place in Box-Toppers season player rankings after earning Player of the Game honors Tuesday.
Fried (8IP 3H R BB 7K W in the 6-1 win over the Pirates) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 15.0 for the season, fourth among NL pitchers.
Notable—Mariners pitcher Robbie Ray now has earned 11.4 Box-Toppers points in 2022 after earning Player of the Game honors Tuesday.
Ray (6.2IP 2H R 2BB 7K W in the 4-2 win over the Nationals) ranks 17th among all players in 2022 Box-Toppers points, sixth among AL pitchers.
Also notable—Aaron Judge of the Yankees rises to second place among AL batters in 2022 Box-Toppers points after earning Player of the Game honors Tuesday.
Judge (HR 2-4 R 2BI in the 4-2 win over the Mets) earns 1.0 Box-Toppers point, giving him 9.2 for the season. He trails top-ranked AL batter Jose Ramirez of the Guardians (10.7).

Debut—Rockies pitcher Justin Lawrence made his Box-Toppers debut Tuesday with his first career Player of the Game honor.
Lawrence (1IP 0H 0R 0BB 3K W in the 7-6 win over the Rangers) made his Major League debut April 29, 2021, and was playing in his 38th career game.
